CORFU ISLAND

 CRUISE THE IONIAN ISLANDS

Corfu must be one of the most interesting islands in the Ionian archipelago. Dozens of small beaches hide along its vast coast, some only few meters long and waiting to be discovered. Pine trees cover the hills and create much needed shade next to the water, their branches mix with salty air and the smell of the occasional fig tree, all together creating wonderful fresh scent that can only exist in Greece. Corfu capital was once the trophy of the Venetians, the British and the French, and monuments of each passing civilization are scattered around city squares, fortresses and museums. Corfu is so rich in history and nature, you will have really hard time deciding what to visit first.

Corfu Beaches

Even though Corfu is an island of many beaches, the most famous are Paleokastritsa and Sidari. Paleokastritsa is known as the most beautiful beach on the island and everyone visiting Corfu rush to find their place and dip the toes in its turquoise waters, so coming by a car can be a bit stressful. Parking spots are getting harder to find minute by minute and since the beach is sheltered by huge cliffs, going back up to your car can be really tiring and the last thing you need on a hot summer day. The best and easiest way to approach Paleokastritsa is on a charter yacht where you can enjoy all of its beauty without the crowds and the noise. Unless you want to, of course.

Sidari is another a beach you absolutely must visit. Huge cliffs rise steeply above the water and create small coves with sandy beaches. A lot of people come to visit the unique Sidari shores, especially Canal D’Amour. Unfortunately, they are very narrow and there are limits to how many people can put their towels without it becoming overcrowded. Approaching this wonderful beach from a yacht is a much better choice. Not only will you be able to see its greatness from the sea, but a boat gives you the liberty of movement and enables you to visit the parts of Sidari that those arriving on foot can only observe from afar.

If you are looking for some peace and quiet on Corfu, Kalami beach would be a perfect choice. Hidden in a little bay and protected from the wind and the crowds, it makes for a perfect sanctuary for families or couples looking for some romantic spots along the coast that are also not too far from the civilization.

History In Corfu Town

While on Corfu, don’t miss the capital either. You can visit the impressive summer palace of the Empress Of Austria, Elisabeth, inspired by the Greek architecture, history and culture. She fell in love with the island on her first visit and decided to build a secluded summer residence with Achilles-themed interiors and gardens named Achilleon. You can also visit the Museum Of Asian Art, Old and New Fortress, as well as Temple Of Artemis and Vlacherna Monastery that somewhat became the symbol of Corfu. Once you decide to take a break, try some of the Greek specialties on the Spianada square and relax with a small cup of Kumquat liqueur, the most popular fruit on the island.

There is so much to see in Corfu and you can miss a lot if you try to visit it in just one day. Take your time to enjoy everything that this beautiful emerald island has to offer in the comfort of your own private yacht charter.
